Bridge Reconstruction on High-Speed Road Safely Completed

The Client

When experts in civil engineering, Hinko Construction needed to carry out a bridge reconstruction on the A162 at Ferrybridge, they needed the support of a traffic management company who they could trust to promote safety, ensure traffic flow and allow works to be carried out on schedule.

We enjoy a good rapport with Hinko Construction and have worked together on various projects throughout the year and have an excellent long-term relationship, so we were delighted when they asked us to carry out their traffic management.

The Problem

Because the road was a high-speed A-road, we needed to install a high-speed lane closure and provide effective signage to ensure that the traffic could continue to flow.

This also meant that preventing injury or accident was also a priority- both for road users and the workforce. Of course, the work itself had to be carried out effectively, with minimal disruption for all.

The Solution

After meeting with the clients and the council, we developed an effective traffic management plan using a CAD design to demonstrate how the process would work. This was then submitted to the council by the client.

With the plan in place, we used outside sources to produce the signage and then installed a high-speed lane closure with an IPV (Impact Protection Vehicle) to protect the workforce from a potential collision.

Despite all the planning that goes into projects of this type, you can never entirely predict how the public are going to manoeuvre around what you’ve done.

For this reason, we continued to monitor the project, conducting regular site visits and asking the client for feedback. If extra signage was required or something needed to be repositioned, we returned to make these improvements.

We also did a weekly maintenance run where we checked for broken or damaged cones, checked the batteries in the lamps that guide drivers at night and ensured everything was operating as it should be.

Results

This project is ongoing and is currently in week ten of twelve (at the time of writing).

Thanks to our efforts, the general public has stayed safe, disruption kept to a minimum and work has been carried out effectively.

We have an excellent ongoing relationship with this client so we are looking forward to working together on similar projects in the future.

“Ensuring smooth, stress-free traffic flow whilst protecting our workers has always been one of our priorities. Having worked with Seven Traffic Management in the past, we knew that we could tick all the boxes by bringing them on board with the project. We certainly weren’t wrong! With their expert team taking control of the traffic, we could focus entirely on carrying out the work. Highly recommended.” - Andy Lacey, MD
